In case you’re following Latin Grammys news, we now have a preliminary list for you of artists who are set to perform at the 20th Annual ceremony come November 14. The Latin Recording Academy announced the group of performers this morning, and it includes several of this year’s nominees: Alessia Cara, Paula Arenas, Draco Rosa, Ximena Sariñana, Sebastián Yatra and yes, even reggaetoneros like Bad Bunny and Sech.
Their involvement as performers is a welcome, albeit definitely questionable, surprise. While the Latin Grammys could certainly use some more urbano representation, it’s no secret that the academy otherwise snubbed many of their successful counterparts. Artists like Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, and Karol G were quick to criticize the awards show, mobilizing behind the “Sin Reggaeton, No Hay Latin Grammys” maxim that circulated across social media for weeks.
For a newcomer like Sech, his gratitude for receiving three nominations in the very first place makes sense. Yet for Bad Bunny — who has received Latin Grammy nominations three years in a row — his silence on the matter is disappointing. Here’s hoping that the young urbano star can use his platform at the Grammy’s to highlight urbano and his frequent collaborators for their efforts.
While this conversation surrounding reggaeton’s exclusion rages on, the Latin Grammys will at least make good on honoring another star, Juanes. The Colombian rockstar is the 2019 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, and is therefore set to perform a medley of his hits at the awards ceremony. Others, including Natalia Jiménez, Olga Tañón, and members of the Fernández family — Alejandro Fernández, Alex Fernández and Vicente Fernández — are also confirmed to perform during the evening at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The 2019 Latin Grammys will air live on Univision on November 14, from 8PM – 11PM ET.
