Pepe Aguilar is finally breaking his silence on his daughter Ángela Aguilar’s marriage. This evening (Sept. 26), the musica méxicana icon released his new song “Cuídamela Bien,” where he addresses her husband, Christian Nodal. Pepe’s lyrics include references to Nodal’s hits and the alleged viral Instagram comment from Ángela, “fan de su relación.”
A few weeks after announcing his separation from Cazzu, Nodal revealed his new relationship with Ángela, generating controversy due to the timeline. The two singers then got married in a private ceremony in Mexico a month later. For the most part, Pepe had steered clear of the conversation around his daughter’s marriage to Nodal. But now, the Aguilar patriarch is opening up about his thoughts in the song “Cuídamela Bien.”
A few teasers of “Cuídamela Bien” showed that Pepe was singing to Nodal with a nod to his Forajido EPs. With the full mariachi song now out, he makes even more references to Nodal by mentioning his hits “Botella Tras Botella” and “No Me 100to Bien.” Pepe pours his heart out by telling Nodal to take good care of Ángela and also references her song “Ahí Donde Me Ven” in the lyrics. Pepe then gives the couple his stamp of approval by singing that he’s a “fan de su relación,” which is a nod to an alleged and infamous Instagram comment from Ángela on a photo of Nodal with Cazzu.
“Cuídamela Bien” is Pepe’s first taste of new music since releasing his rock-infused Que Llueva Tequila album back in May. There’s a good chance that he could perform his latest single live at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards next month. Pepe will also be honored with the Hall of Fame Award for his legendary career in musica méxicana at the ceremony in Miami, FL on Oct. 20.
