Bad Bunny Makes History with 9 Emmy Nominations for Super Bowl Halftime Show

Bad Bunny is making history at the 2026 Emmy Awards. This morning (July 8th), the Puerto Rican superstar’s Super Bowl halftime show received 9 nominations. That’s the most nominations a Super Bowl performance has ever received at the Emmys.
Back in February, Bad Bunny brought Puerto Rican excellence to the Super Bowl with his halftime show performance that was rooted in his culture. Special guests during the performance included Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga. In 2017, Lady Gaga set the record for the most nominated halftime show at the Emmys when her performance that year received six nominations. Bad Bunny just shattered that record.
Bad Bunny’s Superbowl halftime performance received a whopping nine nominations. The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny is nominated in the following categories: Outstanding Variety Special (Live), Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special, Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special, Outstanding Choreography For Variety Or Reality Programming, Outstanding Hairstyling For A Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program, Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Special, Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork For A Special, Outstanding Music Direction, and Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special.
Bad Bunny could also add an Emmy to his collection of awards. He’s nominated as a performer in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category. What’s curious too is that in the same category he’s listed as producer under his birthname Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio. Either way, an Emmy win would give Bad Bunny his second letter in EGOT following his multiple Grammy wins.
The Emmy nominations were announced this morning by Liza Colón-Zayas. The 78th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on Monday, September 14th at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and streamed live on Peacock from the Peacock Theater in LA. And the Creative Arts Emmy Awards will take place on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th.
