Jane the Virgin no longer has a home on Netflix. The comedy-drama series originally ran for five seasons on The CW from 2014 to 2019. According to the Netflix website, it will say goodbye to the streamer worldwide on September 5, 2024.

The series stars Gina Rodriguez (Not Dead Yet) as Jane Gloriana Villanueva, a devout, 23-year-old virgin who becomes pregnant after being accidentally artificially inseminated by her doctor. Jane the Virgin, which earned Rodriguez a Golden Globe for her role, is loosely adapted from the Venezuelan telenovela, Juana la virgen.

The news of the show’s departure from Netflix has been a long time coming. The CW and Netflix signed their first streaming deal in 2011 and renewed it in 2016. In 2019, when it was time to sign another licensing agreement, the companies could not settle on terms. “The ending of the deal doesn’t mean all those shows will immediately disappear,” The Hollywood Reporter published at the time.

Now, five years later, Jane the Virgin will vanish alongside other CW series like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Season 1-4) and iZombie (Seasons 1-5). So far, there is no news about Jane the Virgin finding another home, but it would be a smart move if another streamer picked up the award-winning series. There are plenty of fans who would appreciate it.

Until then, admirers of the show have a little more than a week to binge watch the telenovela before it officially signs off. If you can’t live without the show, it’s available to purchase on Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and YouTube.
