Honestly, nothing excites me more than the beginning of fall. The weather starts to shift, life feels like it’s in flow again and the vibe is, well, just right. It’s the ideal time between summer and the intensity of the holiday season and that’s reason enough for us all to celebrate. With this transition, though, also comes an opportunity to up our game when it comes to our skincare and beauty habits. After all, just because the weather is becoming dryer doesn’t mean our skin or hair has to as well.
With fall rapidly approaching, it’s only natural that I’m looking to my beauty routines to see what needs shaking up. That means weeding out what wasn’t working or is starting to feel old (or is literally just expired and needs to be thrown out like ASAP) all while introducing new habits and products that help liven my skin and hair leaving me feeling refreshed and hydrated. Lucky for me, Ulta Beauty has the product side locked down. With an endless array of the latest and greatest—particularly from Latine-owned or founded businesses—they make it easy to find my next obsession. Here’s how I’m updating my routine for fall.
Once the weather starts to cool down, one of my favorite ways to start my days is by opening up the windows and letting fresh air in. There’s truly nothing like a crisp fall breeze coupled with some warm water with lemon to kickstart the day. If I’m working out—hot Pilates currently has my heart—I’ll go first thing in the morning and leave the routine for after my class.
First on my routine is skincare! Probably the most coveted and anticipated activities in my day. For me, skincare is everything. It’s my way of telling myself te amo while creating space for my thoughts to flow. It’s my version of a daily meditation that I never skip. And since I live in a literal desert and cooler weather is upon us, the Elaluz by Camila Coelho Beauty Oil is a must-have. The LOLI Beauty Date Nut Brûlée Organic Nourishing Miracle Balm has also made its way into my cabinets for fall, although it’s definitely one of those holy-grail products you’re going to want to use year round. I use the multipurpose product to not only remove makeup and dirt but also to hydrate the rest of my body, showing a little extra love to areas with stretch marks.
Cue haircare. When I tell you that I’ve been using It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product since before I knew how to spell conditioner, I’m truly not exaggerating. It’s a tried-and-true product I refuse to let go of. And for good reason, it detangles like no other and leaves my hair healthy and smooth. The Miracle Hair Mask, however, is a new product from It’s a 10 I’ll most definitely be reaching for more in the fall.
As someone who may or may not live the majority of their life in a slicked-back-bun (it’s called being Latina), extra moisture—particularly in the fall when the weather begins to get even more dry—is an absolute must. Pro tip: if you want a slicked look without the damage, try drenching your hair in a deep conditioning mask like my fave from It’s a 10 before pulling it back into a topknot. In addition to working as the best gel replacement ever, it’s also an opportunity to leave the mask in for way longer, allowing for the ingredients to do their thing to the fullest. Once I know I’ve soaked up all the It’s a 10 magic, I’ll end the day with a shower to shake off any stress before bed. The Rizos Curls Pink Scalp Massage Brush makes washing my hair one of my favorite activities. Once you try it out, you’ll know exactly what I mean.
Introducing a few new products and habits into my day makes the world of a difference, no matter how small they may appear. Plus, at the end of the day, we’re not here to prove anything to anyone. So, if swapping out an old product with something fresh for fall helps create feel-good moments then that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?
