Soon we’ll be returning to the world of Velvet thanks to Telemundo.
Telemundo Studios have announced the start of production for Velvet El Nuevo Imperio, which is a remake of the beloved Velvet 2014 series. The studios have unveiled the stellar cast which includes Spanish actor Yon Gonzalez as Alberto Márquez and Mexican actress Samantha Siqueiros as Ana Velásquez. Remezcla was exclusively invited for the cast reveal and caught up with the lead actors about the exciting new project.
“I am very happy! I’m excited to get started as soon as we can and kick this production off,” said Yon Gonzalez in Spanish. “This is a love story so there will be lots of suffering, lots of tears but most of all, there will be a lot of love from the characters so I hope that it reflects perfectly on screen.”

This show will be Gonzalez’ first project with Telemundo. His character will be playing Siqueiro’s love interest in the series, who has starred in previous Telemundo shows. But for Siquiero, this isn’t her first time working with the network. She shared, “I’m very grateful to have a new opportunity with Telemundo. And a leading role. It’s a lot of pressure but it’s also a privilege.”

The beloved series is about two individuals from different socioeconomic backgrounds
fall in love, but societal pressures force them into the unthinkable. The 2014 series Velvet, starring Paula Echevarría and Miguel Ángel Silvestre, took place in a 50s Spanish fashion house. In this new modern take, the story will take place in New York City right in the middle of fashion heaven. However, the two main leads shared they didn’t watch the original series for inspiration. “I never watched the original series, not because I didn’t want to but I never stumbled upon it. Personally, I prefer to work on my characters from zero instead of from another point of view,” Siqueiros told Remezcla.

Silvestre played the role of Alberto Márquez in the original series. And like Siqueiros, Gonzalez is also starting his character from scratch. He said, “I’m never inspired by other characters I’ve done.” The same thing goes for if the character was played by another actor. “I like to feel free and make my own art.”

Another returning face to Telemundo is actor Danilo Carrera who will play the role of Carlos Aristizabal. “It’s my second project […] with Telemundo. Velvet is a huge project.” And when it comes to his character, who is hinted at being a villain, it’s a new journey for him and Velvet. “This character is someone we haven’t seen. Someone completely new.
The cast also includes Jeimy Osorio, Daniella Navarro, Camila Nuñez, Sofía Aragón, Jorge Aravena, Gaby Borges, Luciano D’Alessandro, Leonardo Daniel, Osvaldo de León, Bernardo Flores, Josh Gutiérrez, Candela Márquez, Aylin Mujica, Sonya Smith, Sahit Sosa, and Carlos Ponce.
During the production kick-off event, the stellar cast was introduced in true fashion style, a catwalk where they posed inside the set of Velvet galleries that we’ll soon get to see on screen.

Production of the new series is currently filming at Telemundo Center in Miami, Florida.
