The highly anticipated Rusical took place on Drag Race México 2×07 this week. The seven remaining contestants acted, danced, and sang through a musical based on Thalia’s iconic telenovelas. One of her co-stars, Mexican actress Chantal Andere, appeared as a special guest judge. And in a shocking twist, a frontrunner was knocked out of the competition.

The episode opened with Lolita Banana and Taiga Brava announcing the theme of the Rusical: The Three Marías. The title is a reference to Thalia’s characters in the telenovelas María Mercedes, Marimar, and María la del Barrio. A bit of friction arose between the contestants when they were tasked with divvying out the roles from the Rusical among themselves. The queens later met with Lolita Banana and Taiga Brava to record their songs in a studio.

Over on the runway, Andere referenced the villain she played on Marimar. After Lolita Banana dropped a bracelet, Andere suggested that she pick it up with her teeth like Thalia’s character that went down into the mud.

In The Three Marías, Eva Blunt was praised for channeling Thalia the most with her clownish spin on María Mercedes. Luna Lansman wore Thalia’s black outfit from María la del Barrio while singing a parody of the theme song from that show. And Leexa Fox rounded out the Marías with her interpretation of Marimar.

Among the villains, Jenary Bloom was the most outlandish and she won her second challenge this season.

With this week’s runway theme being Yellow Like the Sun, all the contestants shined in their looks. Eva Blunt wowed the judges with her sun-inspired gown and headpiece that was made out of corn. Elektra Vandergeld stepped outside of the box with her fashionable praying mantis ensemble. Another standout was Jenary Bloom with her radiant spin on the sun and spring season.

The judges deemed two frontrunners as the bottom two this week: Luna Lansman, who was the first queen this season to win two Maxi Challenges, and Horacio Potasio, who has a previous win under her belt.

The two queens battled it out to “Me Hipnotizas” by RBD star Anahí. Potasio pulled out the flips and tricks while Luna Lansman took a comedic approach to the song. After winning the last two episodes, Luna Lansman was surprisingly eliminated in Drag Race México 2×07.
