America Ferrera spoofed her Barbie monologue for Oscars promo alongside Barbie costars Kate McKinnon and Ryan Gosling. Ferrera, who is nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, got to give Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel a version of her memorable Barbie monologue as a pep talk for him to host the Academy Awards.

The video, which sees Kimmel trying to find his way to the Oscars, features a Helen Mirren voiceover, just like in the movie. It also features Gosling – who, like Ferrera, is nominated for Best Supporting Actor, referring to the Greta Gerwig snub for Best Director. Gerwig not getting a directing nod for Barbie was a big part of the conversation after the Oscars nominations were announced, even bigger than the groundbreaking nomination for Ferrera.

“You have to be extraordinary, but somehow you’re always doing it wrong,” Ferrera says in the Oscars promo. “You have to make fun of people, but you can’t make too much fun of people. You have to give everybody enough time, but you can’t go long,” Kimmel seems to agree. “And you are the center of attention, but no one cares you’re there. You can never show off, never fail, never show fear… no one says thanks, but everyone has something critical to say online. If it goes well, nobody says anything. If it doesn’t, it’s all your fault.”

The internet’s reaction to the promo featuring America Ferrera was mostly one of confusion, with some people not understanding why the promo was all Barbie-related.

Others did not like the fact that the promo was spoofing what they considered the realest part of the movie.

While other people were quick to point out that the comparison between hosting the Oscars and being a woman was a little tone-deaf.

The Oscars are set to air on ABC on March 10th at 7ET/4PT.
