Pedro Pascal helped revive a fan-favorite sketch with Meryl Streep and Woody Harrelson on the SNL 50: The Anniversary Special.
“Close Encounter” is a recurring sketch on SNL that first aired in December 2015. Past cast member Kate McKinnon has appeared in all the previous iterations of the sketch about her character’s encounters with aliens, ghosts, and Santa Claus. As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations for Saturday Night Live, she returned to the show and brought back “Close Encounter” with Pascal, Streep, who appeared on the show for the first time, and Woody Harrelson.
In the latest sketch of “Close Encounter,” McKinnon’s character opens up about a new experience with alien abduction and has Pascal and Harrelson help her recreate her abduction. They were also abducted. Streep plays McKinnon’s character’s mom. While talking about what transpired with the aliens, McKinnon and Streep’s character talk explicitly about their circumstances.
In a nod to the classic film The Devil Wears Prada, Streep says “the devil wears nada” about her undergarment situation with the aliens. The mother also refers to Pascal’s character as “mustache” while they’re hitting on each other. McKinnon sits between them with a look of disgust on her face as Streep throws a leg over the side of her chair and turns to Pascal.

Earlier in the 50th anniversary special, Pascal joined the “Domingo” universe. He and Bad Bunny appeared in a new sketch with Marcello Hernández’s beloved viral character. Pascal played Domingo’s older brother Ronaldo and Bad Bunny was his self-proclaimed “hot brother” Santiago. Sabrina Carpenter also joined them in the “Espresso”-inspired sketch.
