The Weeknd‘s latest EP, My Dear Melancholy, lives up to its name. In the six-track effort, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye bears his heartache for the world. There’s one song in particular, “Call Out My Name,” that fans have already speculated is all about Selena Gomez. Back in January 2017, we started hearing rumors about Gomez and The Weeknd’s relationship. As the months went by, they finally confirmed their relationship and constantly posted about each other on social media. By October, however, the two called it quits, reportedly because of scheduling issues. Shortly after we learned of their breakup, Sel was spotted hanging out with Justin Bieber. And if “Call Out My Name” is indeed about Gomez, then he regrets ever falling for her.
“We found each other/I helped you out of a broken place/You gave me comfort/But falling for you was my mistake,” the song starts. People believe that The Weeknd is using the song to admit that he almost gave Gomez a kidney. “I said I didn’t feel nothing, baby, but I lied/I almost cut a piece of myself for your life/Guess I was just another pit stop/Til you made up your mind/You just wasted my time/You’re on top.”
In September, Gomez revealed that she underwent a life-saving kidney transplant because of her Lupus. Her bff, Honduran-Mexican-American actress Francia Raísa quietly donated the organ over the summer. It wasn’t until months later that Selena opened up about the importance of the surgery.
