Where are our Aries at? It’s time to celebrate the Zodiac sign known for being courageous, honest, and driven. Today, we continue our monthly listicle with the first Fire sign of the year, which runs from March 21 to Apr. 19. Aries is part of the fiery collective alongside Leo and Sagittarius.
Our Latine artist Rolodex is full of talented Aries. Take Mariah Carey for an example. The iconic diva, whose “anniversary” is on Mar. 27, checks out all three of her sign’s popular characteristics: courageous, honest, and driven. Carey, known to have personally struggled growing up, has been a leading force in the music industry since the 1990s, thanks to being courageous and driven enough to pursue her dream. Another Aries Latina who shares Carey’s traits is Argentinean singer and actress Tini. Starting Aries season off by celebrating her birthday right on Mar. 21, Tini is not only a successful singer, but she also thrives as a dancer and actress. With that in mind, she’s one of Argentina’s most popular powerhouses that encapsulates what a Fire sign is all about.
But these artists are only two of the many Latine musical gems that we’re celebrating this month. There are many more Aries figures in music like Chilean pop hitmaker Álex Anwandter, Mexican ranchera icon Paquita La Del Barrio, Puerto Rican rapper Villano Antillano, and emerging Mexican star Macario Martínez, who have all given us courageous and honest tracks that we’ve kept on replay. And how can we forget about our favorite earworms by other popular Aries artists like Mexican-American queen Selena Quintanilla, Mexican corrido tumbado creator Natanael Cano, and El Sol de México Luis Miguel?
From Quintanilla’s cumbia anthem “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom [En Vivo]” to Villana’s sensual banger “XXL,” here are seven songs to celebrate our favorite Aries on their birthday month.
Quintanilla’s music is timeless. Her legacy transcends generations — and that’s proven fact, as we still remember her dearly today, nearly three decades after her untimely death. What makes her music eternal is perhaps the unmatched cumbia pop that helped her become a mainstream artist. Paired with her stage charisma and suave feel, the Tex-Mex queen still remains an inspirational powerhouse to many international stars today. Take Karol G’s “MI EX TENÍA RAZÓN” and Becky G’s “OTRO CAPÍTULO” as examples. Both artists often cite Quintanilla as one of their main inspirations. Beyond music, her legacy is kept alive in films, such as the recent documentary Selena y Los Dinos by Mexican-American director Isabel Castro. We’ll make sure to put on her music a little louder on Apr. 16 for her birthday.
Álex Anwandter - “Ahora Somos Dos”
The Chilean musician, composer, and film director is celebrating his birthday this season. Born on March 24, the pop hitmaker is known to be courageous and honest in his lyrics. Case in point, in “Ahora Somos Dos,” he talks about finding someone like himself with raw lyrics like, “Me dijiste ‘Gracias a Dios que salí maricón / Que esto no es vida, es pedir perdón.’” This Aries is also known to be driven by creativity. Beyond making his own music, Anwandter is also a producer for other artists. He recently produced Julieta Venegas’ album Tu Historia, which featured songs like “Caminar Sola” and “Mismo Amor.” “My best decision was to trust – he’s the one with the artistic baton,” Venegas told Remezcla about working with Anwandter. “A lot of the different turns that the album took at one point were very important doing them with him because I really trust him, and I really like his taste artistically.”
Luis Miguel - “Cuando Calienta El Sol”
LuisMi is also celebrating a year around the sun this season. Born on Apr. 19, 1970, in Puerto Rico but naturalized into Mexican, the global artist is one of the most popular Latine Aries stars to date – he even has an album named after his zodiac sign. Known for his hits like “Ahora Te Puedes Marchar,” “La Incondicional,” and “Hasta Que Me Olvides,” Luis Miguel is celebrated for his successful musical career that has transcended generations. In his fruitful musical trajectory, LuisMi has sung different genres such as ballads, boleros, pop, mariachi, and more, demonstrating his vocal diversity. Though he hasn’t dropped new music since 2017, the superstar still sells out tours that feature his past hits, such as “Cuando Calienta El Sol,” making him one of our favorite Aries to cheers to!
Villano Antillano - “XXL”
La Villana is celebrating her birthday this month! Born on March 27, the empowering Puerto Rican rapper represents Aries’ common characteristics, specifically being honest and driven. For example, she isn’t one to shy away from talking about her political sentiments online, embodying her sign’s honest trait. Moreover, in the music video for her recent reggaeton banger “XXL,” she shows off her sensuality and fierceness with courage in true Aries fashion. What other songs do we like by this Aries queen? Her other bangers like “Ride Or Die, Pt. 2” with Sevdaliza and Tokischa, and, of course, her hit Bizarrap session from 2022. Let’s just say she deserves all the flowers on her birthday month and beyond.
Natanael Cano, Dan Sanchez - “Adrenalina”
The Mexican corrido tumbado enthusiast’s birthday is on March 27. Cano checks off Aries traits such as being honest and driven. For example, thanks to his musical drive, he pushed corridos tumbados to the mainstream. By co-creating corridos tumbados with Dan Sanchez, the Mexican crooner opened a pathway for artists like Peso Pluma to thrive today. Although his subgenre was often criticized at first, he was courageous enough to continue pursuing his music. Fast forward to now, you can catch a corrido tumbado even on mainstream radio. What else makes this Aries one of our favorites? His knack for creating hits. Imagine if we never got “AMG” with Peso Pluma and Gabito Ballesteros, or “PRC” with Peso Pluma?
Paquita La Del Barrio - “Que Me Perdone Tu Perro”
The Mexican icon was born on Apr. 2, 1947. This year, the Aries heartbreak queen sadly passed away on Feb. 17, before celebrating what would’ve been her 78th birthday. Known for her bold, unapologetic anthems like “Tres Veces Te Engañe” and “Me Saludos A La Tuya,” Paquita was an empowering and honest singer who sang tunes that got the crowd going. Her distinctive voice paired with her raw lyrics made her one of Mexico’s most popular ranchera singers. Following her death, many pop stars are honoring her legacy. During Vive Latino last weekend (Mar. 16), Mexican-Spanish artist Belinda sang “Rata De Dos Patas” while wearing a bedazzled outfit dedicated to the late singer.
Macario Martínez - “Adiós (Live en cuarentena)”
While fans wait for Martínez to drop the official music video for his viral song “sueña lindo, corazón,” they can enjoy his older videos, such as this live performance from the pandemic. Born on Apr. 18, the rising singer has shown us his Zodiac sign’s courageous trait by recording himself singing while working as a street sweeper. Had he not had the bravery to do so, who knows if he would’ve reached the level of popularity as quickly as he did in the last month or so. Now with over 265,000 followers on Instagram and more than two million monthly listeners on Spotify, the emerging artist has a major platform to continue releasing music on. Not only that, but he also recently made his debut festival performance at Vive Latino last weekend (Mar. 15), opening a new chapter in his flourishing music career.
