Where are our Aquariuses at? Often described as innovative, intellectual, and eccentric, we’re continuing our monthly listicle with Aquarius, which approximately runs from Jan. 20 to Feb. 18. Ready to hear all about the first Air sign of the year?

Aquarius artists are prominent in the Latine industry. Last year, we shouted out favorites like Karol G, Don Omar, and Shakira. This year, we’re celebrating more great artists, like the emerging Mexican experimental artist RIXXIA, Colombian superstar Maluma, and Cuban-American singer Gigi Perez. We are also toasting to Mexican pop star Gloria Trevi, the late regional Mexican icon Vicente Fernández, the Mexican pop-rock icon Alejandra Guzmán, and the emblematic Puerto Rican rapper Tego Calderón, who all share the same water bearer symbol.

Sure, it may appear that all the aforementioned artists have different styles in music. But what makes them alike is their Aquarius personalities, which are at the core of who they are. Take RIXXIA’s innovative, eccentric, and experimental songs, for example. The Mexican artist tests the limits of her creativity through live DJ sets featuring her own vocals. Another example is Maluma’s endless collaborations across genres—he’s done everything from mariachi to hip-hop-tinged tracks, proving his knack for exploring new sounds. Each of the projects demonstrates an Aquarius’ willingness to innovate and push their music in a new direction. Makes sense, since the water bearer sign is known to be a “rebel at heart,” giving them the exact energy to do their own thing and not think twice.

From RIXXIA’s high-energy and reflective EDM to Calderón’s latest old-school reggaeton, here are seven songs that commemorate these music masterminds on their birthday month.

And for any Aquarius reading this: Happy birthday!

RIXXIA – “super girl!”

1

“Quieren que salve el mundo, but I’m just a girl,” the Mexican singer croons on her new track “super girl!” Known to mix high-energy EDM, reggaeton, and trap, RIXXIA expresses her creativity behind the decks and on the microphone. “I’ve always felt super Aquarian because I feel misunderstood, and sometimes I don’t even know what I feel, and I only know that I feel very intensely,” she

Remezcla during a Catching Up With chat. Though she may not be able to pinpoint her emotions, she certainly knows how to express them on her lively DJ sets and tongue-in-cheek reggaeton tracks that have made her one of Remezcla’s rising female singers to know in Mexico’s fruitful reggaeton scene last year.

Maluma – “Un Polvito +”

2

Born on Jan. 28, the Colombian pop star is always on Billboard charts for a reason. He’s quick to jump on trends, explore sounds, and push his music into new genres without being tied down to a single niche. From his throwback hits like “Borro Cassette” and “Felices Los 4” to his hit collaborations like “Chantaje” with Shakira and “Medellín” with Madonna, Maluma is a musical chameleon that lets his Aquarian’s innovative and eccentric traits shine. As far as his Zodiac sign’s intellectual and humanitarian traits go, let’s not forget Maluma also runs his arts and training program “El Arte de los Sueños” on top of all his musical success.

Gigi Perez – “Sleeping”

3

Gigi Perez, known for her indie folk and indie pop songs, went viral last year. Her track “Sailor Song,” which tells the story of falling in love with another woman, helped her reach new audiences after it went viral online. But did you know that this impressive singer is Latina? Turns out she’s a Cuban-American singer from West Palm Beach, FL. Her Latine roots come from her parents, who immigrated from Cuba to New Jersey and later to Florida. To date, she has collaborated with artists like Alex Warren, Mt. Joy, and Blondshell. With only one debut album, At The Beach, In Every Life, under her belt, we hope to hear more of Perez as her career flourishes.

Gloria Trevi – “Mentí”

4

Born on Feb. 15, 1968, the controversial pop icon Gloria Trevi is a household name thanks to her classics like “Con Los Ojos Cerrados,” “Todos Me Miran,” and “Dr. Psiquiatra.” After her public ups and downs, she’s back with new music and a new tour. “Mentí” is another empowering, heartfelt pop ballad that’s part of her signature sound. What’s next for Trevi? She’s currently anticipating her one-night-only concert in the U.S. She’s preparing her upcoming show at the BMO Stadium on Feb. 28, where she will celebrate her birthday and sing all of her hits in one night. “Celebrating my birthday on stage is the best way to thank life and my fans for so many years of love and resilience,” Trevi shared in a press statement.

Vicente Fernández – “Hermoso Cariño (Oficial En Vivo)”

5

The late legend Vicente Fernández was born on Feb. 17, 1940, and passed away on Dec. 12, 2021, at age 81. However, his classic hits still live on, such as the timeless and romantic bolero “Hermoso Cariño” from 1971. Penned by Fernando Z. Maldonado Rivera, the bolero continues to be one of Fernández’s biggest hits alongside “Volver, Volver,” also written by the same author. Fast forward to now, the Fernández Dynasty is carried by his son, Alejandro Fernández, who recently wrapped up his tribute tour to his father, “De Rey a Rey Tour.”

Alejandra Guzmán – “Nueve Vidas”

6

Celebrating another year around the sun on Feb. 9, “La Reina del Rock” has been a rebellious figure in the Mexican pop and rock scene since the late 1980s. Makes sense since Aquarians are known for being unique, eccentric, and well, rebels. And like her new song title “Nueve Vidas” suggests, Alejandra Guzmán has lived many lives under the spotlight. But despite her public dilemmas, she’s another pop-rock icon who continues to leave her mark on the Latine music scene, unapologetically. Though she hasn’t released new music since 2024, she continues to be a staple on our playlists.

Tego Calderón – “La Receta”

7

Born on Feb. 1, Calderón is one of Puerto Rico’s most famous rappers of all time. Thanks to songs like “Pa’ Que Retozen,” “Bandoleros,” and “Al Natural,” the actor and rapper has influenced this generation’s most beloved Latine artists, including Bad Bunny himself. Though he has not dropped a single since “La Receta” in 2023, Yandel released a collaboration called “REGGAETON MALANDRO” featuring the legend himself a year later. It’s unclear if he will perform live again or drop new music, but we’ll continue to patiently wait for any comeback songs or tours he decides to announce in the future.
