Maná is making history with their nomination to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The legendary Mexican group is the first Spanish-language band to appear on the ballot for this year’s induction ceremony. Pop icon Mariah Carey is also nominated.
Since 1986, many of the greatest artists in the history of music have been inducted on an annual basis into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. A few Latine acts that have been inducted in the past include Santana, Ritchie Valens, Linda Ronstadt, and Joan Baez. Not only is Maná making history as the first group that sings in all Spanish to be nominated to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but also as the first band formed in Latin America. On Instagram, Maná shared their excitement about the nomination in a heartfelt post.
“We are 4 cuates that grew up in Mexico listening to rock & roll — the Beatles, the [Rolling] Stones, Queen, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, Santana, ect ect,” the band shared. “We dreamed of sharing our own music with the world. We wanted to share the sound and spirit of Mexico and Latin America. To be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is something that’s almost impossible to imagine. We’re very grateful for this honor.”
Maná is nominated for the first time to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Another Latine artist up for the honor is Carey, who was nominated for a second year in a row. This year’s induction class will be selected from the 12 nominees by an international voting body of 12,000 musicians, music insiders, and historians. Fans can also vote in an online poll that can help influence the final list of inductees.

Maná took this historic moment to show support for Latine migrants as well. “We want to share this recognition with all the Latinos around the world, especially all of the immigrants that are suffering at this moment,” they said in a statement.
The rest of the nominees are Bad Company, the Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Oasis, Outkast, Phish, Sound Garden, and the White Stripes. The 2025 class of inductees will be revealed in April.
