J Balvin is putting his life on the line in Alaska for his newest music video. The Colombian superstar embraces his inner movie survivalist in his “Amigos” music video, released today (Dec. 7).

After stepping away from the spotlight to focus on fatherhood, J Balvin returned with a string of singles that he released this past year. He teamed up with next year’s Super Bowl halftime show headliner Usher and DJ Khaled for “Dientes,” which sampled the 2004 hit “Yeah!” J Balvin also joined forces with rising stars Omar Courtz, Yovngchimi, and Quevedo for “En Alta.” Now, he is shining solo for his latest single, “Amigos.”

In various Instagram posts from the recording studio, J Balvin has teased that his next project will revisit the sentimental reggaeton behind his 2016 album Energía. He makes a welcomed return to that heartfelt sound in “Amigos.” J Balvin sings about his struggle to overcome “la tusa” following a breakup. In the hypnotic reggaeton track, he wishes his ex the best as they both go their own ways.

The music video for “Amigos,” directed by Patricia Alfonso, perfectly captures that emotional turmoil. J Balvin goes on a soul-searching trip through the Matanuska Glacier National Park in Alaska. As he braves the cold, he taps into his best acting skills while tending to a bloody leg injury. J Balvin’s persistence to make it through the wilderness leads him to find peace of mind and a beautiful view of the aurora borealis.

Last month, J Balvin announced the dates for his 2024 Que Bueno Volver a Verte Tour. He will put on concerts in Europe throughout April, May, and June of next year. Back in October, he featured on the song “Colmillo” from Tainy’s Data album along with Young Miko.
