One of the biggest songs in the world right now belongs to a giant in the reggaeton mexa scene. Mexican singer El Bogueto is making a global impact with his viral hit “Cuando No Era Cantante” featuring Yung Beef. The song’s success has even led to a diss track from one of his former collaborators, Yng Lvcas.

El Bogueto, who hails from Neza, in the state of Mexico, is one of the pioneers of the new reggaeton mexa wave. Throughout the past few years, he has risen in prominence alongside fellow trailblazers El Malilla and Dani Flow. In September 2024, El Bogueto released his second album, No Hay Loco Que No Corone. It would take a few months for the album to spawn El Bogueto’s first viral hit “Nena Moxita” featuring Yeri Mua. Its success was marred by tension after El Bogueto’s girlfriend, Ximena Flores, allegedly didn’t allow him to perform the collaboration with Yeri amidst infidelity rumors. Over a year after the album’s release, El Bogueto has scored another viral smash with “Cuando No Era Cantante.”

El Bogueto joined forces with Spanish rapper Yung Beef for “Cuando No Era Cantante.” The alluring reggaeton banger is currently No. 1 on Mexico’s Spotify 50 chart, pulling ahead of hit corridos by Fuerza Regida. The song has also impressively peaked at No. 22 on Spotify’s Global 50 chart. Over on TikTok, “Cuando No Era Cantante” has been used in over 249,000 videos. There isn’t a particular trend attached to the song, but people are posting videos of themselves ascending to it in the club.

After scoring the first global reggaeton mexa smash with the Peso Pluma-assisted “La Bebe” remix in 2023, Yng Lvcas told Remezcla that he wanted to use his platform to uplift artists like El Bogueto and El Malilla. Now, Yng Lvcas is claiming that he was assaulted by El Bogueto and his team at a private party hosted by J Balvin on Nov. 21. In response to the alleged aggression, Yng Lvcas released the tiraera called “Naqueto,” where he attacks an El Bogueto lookalike in the music video. “Chinga a tu madre NAQUETO. Atte: Tu papá,” reads the opening lines of the music video. El Bogueto has since called the song a “tremenda mierda.”
