One RBD classic has been reimagined in a new way. Today (May 24), Colombian pop star Camilo released his version of “Sálvame” featuring an iconic salsa group.
For his fourth album Cuatro, Camilo decided to delve into tropical music. The Latin Grammy-winning singer dabbled in genres like salsa, cumbia, pambiche, merengue, and vallenato, which he grew up listening to in Colombia. In the past few months, Camilo has teased the LP with a series of EPs.
“I always listened to La Sonora Matancera, La Fania, and Sonora Ponceña,” he shared in a statement. “As I got older, I started listening to Juan Luis Guerra and Grupo Niche, who were immense references throughout my life, as well as Joe Arroyo, a Colombian emblem, among many other artists who are part of my DNA.”
A surprising inclusion on Camilo’s latest album isn’t typically known for being part of the tropical music scene. He covered RBD’s classic song “Sálvame” from the band’s 2004 album Rebelde. He transformed the emotional Latine pop ballad into a swinging salsa banger. Camilo collaborated on the song with Cuban musician Alexander Abreu and his legendary band Havana D’Primera. Together, Camilo and Abreu show a completely different side to RBD’s music with this colorful remake.
Camilo and RBD fans are raving online about his fresh take on “Sálvame.” With crying emojis, one person on X wrote, “I love that Camilo released a cover of Sálvame by RBD.” Another person added, “CAMILO RELEASED A VERSION OF SÁLVAME BY RBD. MY 15 YEAR OLD SELF IS CRYING WITH HAPPINESS.”
The music video for Camilo’s version of “Sálvame” shows how he recorded the song with Abreu. His album also includes a feature from Carín León on the song “Una Vida Pasada.” Earlier this week, RBD revealed that they are on a hiatus after an investigation found that their ex-manager’s company allegedly stole money from the band’s comeback tour.
