Becky G celebrates the connection between beauty and music in a new docuseries that also features Chappell Roan and Victoria Monét. In Sephora’s three-part Faces of Music documentary, released on Hulu on January 22, Becky G gets vulnerable about her career and relationship to makeup while she recreates some of her most well-known makeup looks.

The Mexican-American singer starts the episode bare-faced and collaborates with her long-time makeup artist Gilbert Estrada, who is also known by his artist name “Makeup by Gilly.” They talk through the inspiration behind the beauty looks for her signature cat eye, her tour looks, and the looks for her music videos. Those include videos like “Mayores” with Bad Bunny, “Sin Pijama” with Natti Natasha, and her solo single “Otro Capítulo” in which she samples Selena Quintanilla

When talking about Faces of Music, Becky G exclusively shared with Remezcla the vulnerable reason as to why she previously used makeup as a way to hide. “I grew up in the public eye from a young age, with so many eyes on me. At the same time, I was going through the same things any normal teenager does, like acne and struggles with self-esteem. For a long time, I used makeup as a way to hide my imperfections. It became like an armor I put on before stepping out, so I could face the world confidently.”

The documentary covers the 27 year old’s expansive career highlights from the past decade, flashing moments from her music videos, red carpet interviews, winning music awards, her guest appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race and more.

“Makeup has always been a way to express myself—a space of creativity, inclusivity, and self-expression. Partnering with Sephora, a brand that celebrates these values, feels so special,” Becky G shares in a press release. “Throughout my career, I’ve focused on representing my culture and community, and the ‘Faces of Music’ series is an amazing way to bring beauty and music together to share authentic stories. I’m excited to be part of a project that uplifts diverse voices and highlights how our unique backgrounds shape who we are and the art we create.”

Since being discovered on YouTube at 14 years old, Becky G has made great strides not only in the music industry, but in the beauty space as well. She became the youngest Covergirl at age 16 and she later launched her own makeup line Treslúce Beauty in 2021.
