The engines are officially running on the second season of Drag Race México! Episode 2×01 of the Mexican franchise introduced 13 new drag queens competing for the title of “Mexico’s Next Superstar” with a new co-host, Taiga Brava. Lolita Banana and Óscar Madrazo returned to the judging panel with special guest judge Lucía Méndez. The season also kicked off with a fierce lip-sync to a Gloria Trevi classic.
To get the second season started, all 13 queens from throughout Mexico sashayed into the Werk Room. Some standout entrances included Ignus Ars’ black-and-white outfit with braids made of chorizo and Eva Blunt smoking out of an apple in her Eve-inspired look. Drag family bonds were also revealed as queens met each other. Horacio Potasio talked about being the drag daughter of season one finalist Gala Varo. Nina de la Fuente later opened up about competing against her drag daughters, Suculenta and Garçonne.
After Lolita Banana met with the new cast, she announced that Queen of the Universe winner Taiga Brava will be her new co-host. (Valentina parted ways with the show after season one).
Lolita Banana and Taiga Brava then explained to the queens that this week’s challenge involves sewing. In addition to serving a hometown-inspired look, they were tasked with creating a new outfit out of second-hand clothing. While talking with the host about their garment ideas, Ava Pocket revealed that her ex is Visa, the Mexican queen who competed on Drag Race España last year.
Over on the runway, telenovela icon Lucía Méndez alluded to her viral story where she claimed that Madonna had her escorted out of a concert. Her advice to the drag queens was: “Don’t be like Madonna.” On a serious note, Lolita Banana and Taiga Brava took a moment to pay tribute to Mexico’s non-binary magistrate Jesús Ociel Baena Saucedo, who was murdered last November.
The queens looked stunning in their hometown-inspired and self-made looks. Elektra Vandergeld won this week thanks to her outfits by the Valle de Guadalupe vineyards and Jean Paul Gaultier. The judges deemed Ignus Ars and Ava Pocket as the bottom two queens of the week. The lip-syncs in the first season got off to a bad start with some queens not knowing the words. Ignus Ars and Ava Pocket ensured that wasn’t the case this time with their fierce lip-sync performances to Gloria Trevi’s “Me Río De Ti.” Both queens gave their all on the stage, but Ignus Ars became the first contestant to sashay away.
