Drag Race: México 2×04 tackled two beloved challenges across RuPaul’s franchises this week.

In the episode, the 10 remaining drag queens participated in the reading challenge and then they tore up the stage as girl groups. Mexican model and trans activist Victoria Volkóva joined co-hosts Lolita Banana and Taiga Brava on the judging panel. And the bottom two queens then battled it out to a Latine pop classic by Kabah.

The episode kicked off with the reading challenge. Each of the drag queens put on flashy eyewear to playfully insult their competitors. After Ava Pocket compared Jenary Bloom to Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, Lolita Banana caught a stray. Ava Pocket said the three of them could star in a remake of The Hobbit. Eva Blunt, who won this mini-challenge, said Elektra Vandergeld was one acid shot injection away from becoming a biological weapon. Elektra Vandergeld, who also won the reading challenge, compared Leexa Fox to Jamie New from Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

As the mini-challenge winners, Eva Blunt and Elektra Vandergeld picked their teammates for the girl group challenge. Eva Blunt formed Las Obvias Seven and her group got the upbeat track “Ya No Quiero.” Elektra Vandergeld’s team went with the name PNS (Papa No Sabe) and the mid-tempo song “Lonely.”

Both girl groups went head-to-head in a program called Sábado Dragueante, which was a spoof of Sábado Gigante. The judges were living for the queens’ fierce performances, especially Volkóva, who was singing their praises.

Over on the runway, the category was Folk-Futuristic Drag 500. All of the queens did a beautiful job of reinterpreting traditional Mexican garments with a fashion-forward spin. A standout included Jenary Bloom, who also won the girl group challenge. She stunned the judges with her neon-colored take on the designs by Indigenous Huichol people. Ava Blunt also placed in the top this week with her fierce look that was inspired by Chiapas’ parachico dancers.

The judges deemed Garçonne and Unique as the bottom two queens this week.

Both queens bounced around the stage to the feel-good song “La Calle De Las Sirenas” by Mexican group Kabah. Unique even incorporated a bit of the band’s original hand wave choreography. After a fun lip-sync, Garçonne became the fourth queen to sashay away.
