WATCH: Marcello Hernández Returns as Marco Rubio in SignalGate ‘SNL’ Skit

Marcello Hernández is back in action as Marco Rubio on Saturday Night Live. As the U.S. Secretary of State, he spoofed the recent government scandal SignalGate in last night’s (March 29) episode.
Hernández, who is of Cuban and Dominican descent, debuted his impersonation of Rubio earlier this month on SNL. Like Hernández, the highest ranking Latino official in President Donald Trump’s cabinet hails from Miami, FL.
Earlier this week, Rubio got caught up in a government group chat leak. Trump’s national security advisor Mike Waltz accidently added The Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg to group chat in Signal. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth discussed details about the U.S. airstrikes in Yemen in the chat, which also included Vice President JD Vance and other officials.
The cold open in last night’s episode of SNL tackled the SignalGate drama. The skit opened with a group of teen girls texting, which included recent Oscar winner Mikey Madison. Out of the blue, their group chat is infiltrated by Andrew Dismukes’ Hegseth. While revealing more classified information in the chat, he adds in Vance, who is played by Bowen Yang, and Hernández’s Rubio.
As the Cuban-American politician, Hernández pokes fun at Trump’s administration declassifying files about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy by saying that he’s sending the “real” ones. He then catches onto the mistake of including the girls in the chat by writing, “We were totally pranking you guys LOL.” Hernández follows it up by implying they’ll get deported by asking them to send their information to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). At the end, Mikey Day as Goldberg hilariously gets added into the group chat.
In another memorable moment during the episode, Hernández impersonated the flipping pop star Benson Boone in a skin-tight sequin outfit. The young comedian has breathed life into many iconic characters during his tenure on SNL, including the wedding-crashing Domingo.
