One of the most highly-anticipated challenges of the season took place on Drag Race: México this week. For episode 2×05, the nine remaining contestants impersonated celebrities for the Snatch Game. Mexican drag influencers Turbulence & Burrita Burrona also brought the laughs as the special guests. And the runway theme this week inspired many contestants to say important statements with their garments.

The episode opened with Taiga Brava and Lolita Banana announcing the Snatch Game as this week’s Maxi Challenge. After that, Taiga Brava tricked the contestants into thinking that Turbulence & Burrita Burrona would be joining the competition. Instead, the popular influencers offered their input on the queens’ impersonation choices and later participated in the Snatch Game.

Lolita Banana hosted the Snatch Game while Turbulence and Burrita Burrona played as the contestants. Highlights on the celebrity panel included Unique’s playful spin on TV presenter Pedro Sola and Luna Lansman’s boozy version of late Mexican singer José José. Leexa Fox also had everyone cracking up with her impersonation of Spanish trans icon La Veneno.

Jenary Bloom dressed as Katy Perry and imitated her viral eye twitch moment. Ava Pocket decided to play Mexican pop icon Paulina Rubio after her ex Visa did the same on season three of Drag Race España. At the end, Luna Lansman edged out Unique and Leexa Fox to win the challenge.

Over on the runway, the theme was Anti-System.

Many queens embraced the punk spirit of the theme with outfits that had statements. Suculenta reclaimed the term “prietx,” which is often used in a derogatory way to describe Mexicans and Indigenous people with dark complexions. Ava Pocket stomped the runway in a schoolgirl look that was covered in queer slurs. Jenary Bloom later walked with a sign in support of trans resistance. Eva Blunt also used her radical outfit with the colors of the Mexican flag to talk about decriminalizing marijuana in Mexico.

Two previous Maxi Challenge winners, Elektra Vandergeld and Horacio Potasio, placed in the bottom this week with Ava Pocket. And the judges decided that Ava Pocket and Elektra Vandergeld would lip-sync against each other. Both queens brought down the house with their passionate performances to Alejandra Guzmán’s “Reina De Corazones.”

After Lolita Banana applauded them for an “iconic lip-sync,” Drag Race México 2×05 saw Ava Pocket became the fifth queen to sashay away.
