It’s 2023, which means a new batch of TV series will soon be vying for the attention of viewers, from The Last of Us to Freeridge. It also means some already beloved shows are returning for a new season, an impressive feat on its own since the lifespan of streaming series is declining these days.

It’s even more noteworthy when a series with Latine talent is greenlit. Late last year, a study by the Latino Donor Collaborative revealed that there has been little improvement in Latine representation in the TV industry over the last year. In 2021, a dismal 2.9 percent of TV shows were led by a Latine actor. In 2022, the number barely moved to 3.1 percent.

Below are 10 new and returning streaming TV shows (in no particular order) that feature at least one Latine actor in the cast. Circle your calendars now and make sure to support as many of them as you can, so studios can see that Latine audiences are tuning in and want to see themselves on the screen in 2023 and beyond.

The Last of Us

Based on the 2013 PlayStation video game of the same name, The Last of Us series follows a smuggler named Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal), who is tasked with safely escorting a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of a quarantined area filled with humans infected by a mutating infection. In the official trailer, fans were overjoyed to see that there were plenty of scenes that mirrored the video game’s appearance shot for shot.

The Last of Us premieres on HBO Max on January 15, 2023.

That 90s Show

Wilmer Valderrama reprises his role as Fez from That 70s Show in That 90s Show along with a lot of the legacy cast. The former foreign exchange student has turned into a hunk and is now the proud owner of a chain of hair salons called Chez Fez. The new show doesn’t focus on the original characters, however. This time, one of the main characters is Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the daughter of Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon).

That 90s Show premieres on Netflix on January 19, 2023.

Wolf Pack

The werewolf teen drama series Wolf Pack co-stars Rodrigo Santoro, who is of Brazilian descent, as Garrett Briggs, a Los Angeles park ranger and adoptive father of two of the main characters. He is “a man of strong values” and “someone with dark secrets and deep suspicions, especially towards anyone questioning the relationship with his children,” the latter of which get into supernatural shenanigans. Actor James Martinez (Love, Victor) also stars in a recurring role.

Wolf Pack premieres on Paramount+ on January 26, 2023.

A spinoff series of On My Block, Freeridge tells the story of a “new core four,” which includes Gloria (Keyla Monterroso Mejia) and her sister Ines (Bryana Salaz). The show is described as “a coming-of-age comedy” featuring a group of friends “who have unleashed a curse bringing dark misfortune into their lives.” Actors in recurring roles include Eric Neil Guiterrez (On My Block), Paula Garcés (On My Block), J.R. Villarreal (Akeelah and the Bee), Jean Paul San Pedro (Queen of the South), and Abraham Rodriguez (The Terminal List).

Freeridge premieres on Netflix on February 2, 2023.

The Mandalorian (Season 3)

Mando (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu, a “clan of two,” set off on a new adventure in the third season of the popular Star Wars series The Mandalorian. This time, Mando “is a Mandalorian no more” because he removed his helmet and revealed his face. To reclaim his warrior status, he must visit the “living waters” of the planet Mandalore. Season 3 comes after the events of the first season of The Book of Boba Fett.

The Mandalorian season 3 premieres on Disney+ on March 1, 2023.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos

Aubrey Plaza (Emily the Criminal) has earned her way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside actress Kathryn Hahn’s title witch Agatha Harkness, who first debuted on the series WandaVision. Plaza and Hanh have worked together before on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. And while there are few details about Plaza’s character, but we’re hoping she plays a villain in the spinoff series.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.

Ted Lasso (Season 3)

In the sports comedy, coach Ted Lasso crosses over to England to guide a British fútbol team to victory, somehow leading us one of the most honest explorations of the human condition. Star Cristo Fernández plays one of the players Dani Rojas, an enthusiastic Mexican fútbol player who joins the fútbol team midway through the first season. Remezcla described Dani as a character “who lives and breathes an ever-evolving complexity of feelings, thoughts, and emotions…and the sport of fútbol.” We’re sure Dani is ready to make some more winning goals in the third season.

Ted Lasso season 3 premieres on AppleTV+ Spring 2023.

Rosario Dawson made her debut as Ahsoka Tano on episode 5 of The Mandalorian in 2020. Now, Dawson is leading her own spinoff series in the role of Ahsoka, a former Jedi Padawan who used to be an apprentice of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars universe. The series takes place in the same timeline as The Mandalorian and will see multiple beloved characters from her journey join the live-action version.

Ahsoka premieres on Disney+ sometime in 2023.

Ironheart follows Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), an engineering student and inventor who develops an armored suit comparable to the ones Tony Stark made for himself to become Iron Man. Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) will play opposite Williams as the supervillain known as The Hood. This villain was introduced to comic book fans in 2002. He started as a petty criminal who gains superpowers when he defeats a demon.

Ironheart premieres on Disney+ sometime in 2023.

Only Murders in the Building (Season 3)

In Only Murders in the Building, Selena Gomez holds her own incredibly well alongside iconic comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short and will continue to do so in the third season of the mystery dramedy. The series follows a trio of true-crime podcast aficionados who decide to investigate a death in their apartment building. We’re sure the third season will have just as many twists and turns as the first two.

Only Murders in the Building season 3 premieres on Hulu sometime in 2023.
